Music Educator, Master of Art (Education) & Doctor of Philosophy

All of us have the potential to develop our communicative, cognitive and intellectual abilities. People´s different intelligence is, from this perspective, not a problem but a unique basis for our development as cultural beings.

Characteristics for projects I am involved in today are that I try to combine my interest for enculturation and education in different professional contexts. The most important are:

In my profession as educator, cultural worker and researcher, I have never ceased to be fascinated by the nature and the development of human intelligence. Even if some aspects of intelligence can be tested, I understand intelligence as a complex phenomenon which is as varied as human's personality in general. This understanding, based on the theoretical works of the Russian scientist Lev S. Vygotsky, is also my platform as an educator and researcher.

LEARNING LAB SCANDINAVIA

is a network-based research I am involved in as an independent researcher. In this project, focus is on the importance of professional discourses and concepts in complex organisations. This project intends to establish and study “learning labs” as a professional tool to development in private and public establishments.

CONCEPTUALIZATION IN FORMATIVE MUSIC (and MUSIC TEACHING)

is an action-research project I am involved in as a senior lecture in University College of Northern Denmark. The purpose is to combine experimental development and applied research regarding the use of music as a tool in education and social works. The project involves both professional and students.

ABOUT CULTURAL WORK

Besides my occupation as an employed educator, I have also been active as a freelance cultural worker since the seventies. The music has always been the pivot point in those projects, workshops and performances for and with people at all ages. Since 2007, I have used most of my time as freelance together with persons with massive cognitive dysfunction. My decision to prioritise cultural work, supervision and workshops for professionals does, however, that I have to stop giving music lessons.
